Magic Heel Socks Worsted (Cables) Knitting Pattern
 
I just know you’re going to enjoy the ease of knitting these super cozy, top down, worsted weight, cabled socks which include that “Magic Heel” so many of you have fallen in love with!! Of course, there really is no magic involved, just a common-sense approach to knitting a heel that doesn’t include any turning yet allows everyone to become a successful new sock knitter!
 
Even if you’re already an accomplished sock heel knitter, you’ll appreciate the ease of this heel. It’s perfect for gift knitting because you won’t need exact sizes, the method is quicker, and the yarn used is a heavier weight.  A bonus is that this pattern is perfect for using those beautiful self-striping sock yarns because your stripe sequence will never be interrupted at the heel again. 
 
YARN: 
90-120 grams/3-5 ounces of any rustic worsted/heavy worsted/Aran wt yarn. 
*The yarn I used for my sample was Peace Fleece worsted wt, 100 g/4 oz/200 yds/183 m per skein. 
*The size large socks may take up to 120 grams of yarn. If you’d like to knit size large and you only have one (100 g) skein of yarn, you can always shorten the cuff and leg of your sock and/or use a contrasting color for the cuff and toe. 
I’ve been told by many knitters that these socks are easily modified to work with any toe-up sock construction method.
 
NOTIONS: 
2 different clip-on or round stitch markers (one to mark beginning of rnd + one to mark beginning of cable section).
Cable needle or extra double pointed needle
Darning/yarn needle
Sock blockers (optional)
 
NEEDLES:
US 7/ 4.5 mm dpns, short circulars, or long circulars if using the magic loop method (or size needle needed to obtain gauge).
 
GAUGE:
5 sts + 7 rows = 1”/2.5 cm on size US 7/4.5 mm needles in stockinette st (blocked).
If using a heavier worsted wt yarn, your gauge might be closer to 4.5 sts + 8 rows = 1”/2.5cm.
 
SIZES: (S, M, L)
Small: to fit US shoe size 4-6.5
Measurements: Total length: 18”/46 cm, Circumference: 7”/18 cm, Cuff: 1.5”/4 cm, Leg: 6.5”/16.5 cm, Heel: 5.5”/14 cm, Foot: 2.5”/6 cm, Toe: 2”/5 cm.
Medium: to fit US shoe size 7-9.5
Measurements: Total length: 19.5”/49.5 cm, Circumference: 7.5”/19 cm, Cuff: 1.5”/4 cm, Leg: 7”/18 cm, Heel: 6”/15 cm, Foot: 3”/8 cm, Toe: 2”/5 cm.
Large: to fit US shoe size 10-12
Measurements: Total length: 21”/53 cm, Circumference: 8”/20 cm, Cuff 1.5”/4 cm, Leg: 7.5”/19 cm, Heel: 6.5”/16.5 cm, Foot: 3.5”/9 cm, Toe: 2”/5 cm.
