The Bubbling Brook Crochet Triangle Shawl

The Bubbling Brook Crochet Triangle Shawl Free Pattern is an elegant accessory that’s perfect for adding a lightweight layer to your wardrobe.

Designed with a flowing drape and beautiful texture, this crochet triangle shawl is versatile enough to wear as a classic shawl or a stylish wrap for any occasion.

Named by my friend Sarah, the “Bubbling Brook” shawl perfectly captures the design’s inspiration. She said the graceful flow of the shawl reminded her of a winding brook, while the bobbles looked like bubbles dancing across the water. I thought it was the perfect name, and it has suited this design ever since.

This free crochet pattern is ideal if you’re looking for an easy and simple project that creates a timeless result. Worked in 2 colors, the gentle contrast highlights the textured stitches while keeping the overall look soft and sophisticated.

The finished shawl is one size fits most, making it a wonderful handmade gift for ladies or a beautiful addition to your own shawl collection.

How To Crochet A Triangle Shawl

Worked from the top down, this crochet triangle shawl pattern gradually grows into a beautifully shaped triangle with every row. Construction is straightforward, making it an excellent project for confident beginners who are ready to try something a little more textured.

Fingering weight yarn paired with a 5.5 mm crochet hook creates a soft, lightweight fabric with plenty of drape. My sample shawl was crocheted using naturally hand-dyed yarn coloured with black walnut and brazilwood, giving the finished shawl warm, earthy shades that complement the organic design.

Repeating rows of simple stitches are broken up with eye-catching bobble stitches, adding depth and texture while keeping the pattern relaxing to follow. Simple color changes introduce gentle contrast and help define the stitch pattern without adding unnecessary complexity.

Please note, bobbles are always crocheted on a WS row. When crocheting a  bobble, you will essentially be pulling up a series of loops that you will then pull through all at  once.

Small Bobble: 3 dc in 1st st, sc 1, make a bobble by following these steps: Step 1. YO, insert hook into st and pull up a loop. YO, pull through 2 loops. Step 2. Repeat Step 1 in the same st until you have a total of 4 loops on your hook. Step 3. YO, pull through all 4 loops at once. Try to keep it tight.

Large Bobble: 3 dc in 1st st, sc 1, make a bobble by following these steps: Step 1. YO, insert hook into st and pull up a loop. YO, pull through 2 loops. Step 2. Repeat Step 1 in the same st until you have a total of 6 loops on your hook. Step 3. YO, pull through all 6 loops at once. Try to keep it tight.
